Population

The Great Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ decreased from 81,804 in 1970 to 81,327 in 2010. That was a decrease of 0.6 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population decreased from 2,813 in 1970 to 1,758 in 2010. That was a decrease of 37.5 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 3.4 percent to 2.2 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 0.7 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the major factor adding population in all periods - the sole factor in the second period.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the major factor in adding population in all periods.
